On Tuesday 11 October The whole senior Syndicate went to Motat to learn about
Toy’s, Leonardo Da Vinci and much more. The ride will be 2 minutes long and please don’t forget not to get off on the other end or else you will be left behind and the walk back to motat is very long.
Only the second day of school and we start having some fun, ALREADY. We had to get to school by 8:45 because we were going to… MOTAT. YAY! Everyone is excited to go to motat because they want to experience what it is like going for a tram ride. SO the first class on the tram will be class 2 so can you please find your group leader and then head of to a bright orange shop and that is where the tram will pick you up from, Oh and if you want you can put your bags in the cage or you can wear around everywhere that you go. While we were on the train there were other people from the public so we had to be well behaved and represent Waikowhai primary school. When we were on the other-side of the tram station the driver walked to the other-side so that he could drive the other-side of the tram so we could head back to Motat. When we got back to motat we hopped off the tram and said thank you to the driver as we got off.
Afterwards we went to see the Da Vinci machines expedition. When we got there we all looked around and saw the other class up in a room where they got to play with all kinds of toys. We also saw games and not just ordinary games, they all had x-box controllers(or that's what I think it is) and the games were the shape of a arcade game machine like the ones from in these days. Afterwards Mr Ross lead us into a big room full of different types of wooden machines there were ones that we could touch and ones that we couldn’t touch, we could tell that we could or couldn’t touch the because it had green and red labels on them. The red ones obviously meant not to touch them and the green ones obviously meant that we could have a little play around with them. When me and Margaret got inside we saw a machine that we could touch we had a little play around on it and read the description beside that told us what the machine was called what it was made for and what you had to do with it. Then we saw this amazing mirror place, it was full of kids. Everyone was all bunched up in there so me and Margaret went to go and look for Kalana so we could look at other things in the big hall while people started going out. When it was empty Me, Kalana and Margaret went into the small mirror place and looked at our reflections in the mirror, then Rachel came in and she showed us something, but in the mirror, she said that you can see your reflection in the mirror behind the mirror, but inside.
After we looked at the Da Vinci machines expedition headed back to our big tent to have some lunch before our educators Melissa and John came to collect us to take us into the toy room where class 1 was before while we were looking at the Da Vinci machines. While we were having lunch some people were doing the bottle flip challenge. When Melissa and John came everyone had to put their bags away and if they wanted bring their drink bottles. When we got into the little room full of toys I just knew that this activity was going to be fun because of all the toys that were there. When everyone was seated and comfortable Melissa began to explain to us some of the toys. One of the toys were called Sunny Jim, Melissa held him up for all of us to see and said that he was over 100 Years old she said that he used to be in Corn flake cereal boxes, but when she showed us Sunny Jim looked rusty and had brown stains on his pants so I could tell he was very old. Melissa said that the table that we first looked at was called the old table. The very next table was called the old,new table and on that table were toys that were from these days and back in the old days probably when Ms Sands was born. Melissa explained what the old, new table name meant and what we had to do on that table she said that we had to compare them and see if they were different or not, if they were different what was the difference between them. Then there was a table with push and pull toys. Then the last three tables were tables that had toys from these days, toys from those days and puppets. No one really looked at the puppet table, but the certainly did go to the table with the old school and new toys because there were some pretty fun and games and because there were chatter-rings on those tables too. Everybody mostly played with the chatter-rings, but Me, Kalana and Margaret played with the Elastic because all the kinds were hogging the chatter-rings. After we all played with most of the toys the educators told us to come sit back on the mat. Then said it was QUESTION TIME! Not very much people had questions. I think that it was only 3 or 4 people and I was pretty surprised because I thought there was going to be more questions.
As we all escorted ourselves back to the tent we saw the other classes having a g on the games and we thought that it was unfair that they got to go on the games and we didn’t get to go on them(Yet.) When we went back everyone was moaning to Mr Ross and Crystal(Kalanas Mum) If we could go on the games too but they said NO! Not yet. Okay everyone said. Then we went back to the tent and had a little drink and then went to the toilet. When everyone was back from the toilet and finished having a drink we got some free time so we could go our separate ways and look at separate things. We first followed Mr Ross around Once to the playground inside. After a while we went to the 90’s south place where we saw a whole bunch of Sir Edmund Hilary things we even saw his sleeping bag and I thought that it was real because it was all teared apart and some of the threads in it came off a bit, after we looked at that we had a little walk and found the fire department and we saw the real fire truck and we noticed that it had No top part to cover it. Then we saw the school we looked at it and went inside and saw that it was real and that there was real desks there too. When we st down Steven pretended to be the teacher and he pretended that he had the whip stick and told us to be quiet or else we would get whipped with it. Then we saw a little village and in that village it had houses that were small and big. We looked at all sorts of houses and I think my favourite one is the house with a real lady in it and dolls as 3 bears that were the children, it was pretty FREAKY!!!
Then we went to a telephone place and started calling each other because the phones actually worked and all we had to do was write the number of the phone on the phone that we were calling. I called Tayeb, Kalana, Margaret and Steven. Me, Kalana and Margaret all tried to call each other at the same time, but it didn’t work as we expected. The first time we tried it Kalana thought that you had to press the button to ring it because we are kids from these days and we are used to push buttons and not to spin it to the arrow thingy whatever it is or is called.
When we left the phone place we saw everyone already ready to go to the bus because they were seated on the floor and they all had their gear and we were the only group who wasn’t ready. We were surprised because we never thought that we were in there for too long. So when we got to the big tent we grabbed all of our stuff and made sure that we all had our things like lunchboxes, drink bottles eg. Then we headed onto the bus once everyone was in their groups as we got onto the bus we said Hi to our same bus driver. While we were riding I was thinking about the things that we did that day and how it reflected on the things that happens these days compared to the things that happened back in those days.
This recount has been by me alone and not checked by my teacher I am learning to work independently.
This is also a recount about our Motat trip
Wow! this is a comprehensive recount of our trip to MOTAT Sadie. Well Done. I remember going to MOTAT when I was a kid as well. Some of the items on display are the same now as they were 40 years ago and some of the things in the museum are things that I used in my everyday life!! You could have a look at the photos in the folders on the class site and add a couple that are relevant to your recount.
